Travel and Lore emerges from a desire to share authentic stories about the spirit of places and people I meet during my travels: global and local alike. Being a person of many interests, my story is comprised of a diverse set of colorful threads: travel addict, food lover, art enthusiast, permaculturist, humanitarian, and storyteller, with a little woo woo tendencies in the mix. And most importantly – new motherhood – being Jasper’s mama has made me into a multi-tasking ninja.
Like in any intricate pattern, these threads are seeking a new design. Travel has always brought things together in a beautiful way, taking all of my interests and enriching them. So fresh off a career in humanitarian work, the universe has encouraged me to reinvent myself, balancing my free spirited ways with mom life. Travel and Lore is my journey sharing the quips of motherhood coupled with authentic stories about travel, food, and creativity.
A career in humanitarian work showed me how to connect with local people and the spirit of a place, always encouraging curiosity and seeking depth. Bringing Jasper along on my adventures introduces new perspective and opportunity to my way of travel. A self proclaimed “goldilocks,” my travel persona favors slow travel when possible. Striving to make my travel experiences “just right,” I like to get intimate with the atmosphere of my destination and not feel pressured to do everything. Strict itineraries are preposterous in my world (have you ever tried to go anywhere with a baby, time management becomes like an olympic sport). Travel is supposed to enrich your story, even if only through one experience. By slowing down and saying yes to situations as they present themselves, our time in a place can become so much more interesting.
I hope that the tales across these pages will inspire all you readers (and especially new parents) to get out and add authentic experiences to your travel repertoire. And remember to start where you are!
I call Asheville, NC home…a vibrant community nestled between the Great Smoky Mountains and Blue Ridge Mountains. Here I live with my husband, baby boy and our rescue dog, Lola. Recent transplants from the Northeast, the mountains drew us here for our “second life,” one blurring the lines between work and the rest of our everyday moments. As I forge roots into my new community, I will share all the local goodness of this mountain town.
Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy!
